Carrier/Bryant Recalls – Message from NEEA
Dear Northwest HVAC/R Members & Affiliates,
NEEA staff recently became aware that Carrier/Bryant has issued a recall on a limited number of ductless heat pump models sold between March 2015 and April 2019. NEEA staff has reached out to the manufacturer for more information.
Suzi Asmus (NEEA Program Manager, Residential/Mass Markets) reviewed the regional rebate data she has access to and have notified the five utilities we know have paid rebates for these units. NEEA recommends utilities review their own rebate data as well. The NWDuctless Heat Pump Project will be sending an all-utility newsletter in the next day with the following information.
Here is more detail on the recall. The recalled models include the following model numbers:
• Carrier – 38MGQC18—3
• Carrier – 38MGQF48—3
• Carrier – 38MBQB48—3
• Bryant – 538TEQ018RCMA
• Bryant – 538TEQ048RFMA
• Bryant – 538REQ048RBMA
From what NEEA has learned, this is due to a fire hazard that has thus far been a limited event with fewer than ten failures having occurred in the field nationwide.
Carrier and Bryant are ready with a field installed solution that they are supporting for every unit that was sold:
• If the unit was registered by the customer or their installing contractor, the customer and the Carrier/Bryant Dealer will be notified by Carrier/Bryant.
• For units not registered to a customer, Airefco will work with the dealer that purchased the unit to identify and notify the customer.
If your organization or contractor network has any questions about the recall – please see below for additional contact information:
• Utilities and Contractors: Contact Mike Hudson at Airefco email@example.com or 509-209-7475.
